MISS PEACHES
It’s impossible to not remark on the passing of Etta James.
A voice synonymous with each of the styles and genres her career spanned, her influence will only strengthen posthumously.
‘In The Basement‘ is a record of rare warmth and such an encapsulating unity that makes it no surprise that James soundtracked many people’s lives. Theo‘s touches and splices make it even easier to lose yourself.

CLOUD PEOPLE
Blondes are Sam Haar and Zach Steinman, based in Brooklyn.
Since a debut release on Merok, three double-edged 12s have been procured for RVNG Intl, which are collated, along with two new tracks, for their inaugural record, self-titled, released next month.
We point you to the Shacklewell Arms (London!) for an album party, part of a European journey to launch the record.
Wine is a favourite; superbly deep electronica.

BLEAK HOUSE
Creativity can only be appreciated if it is original.
Interpretation can only be of worth if no-one thought that way first.
The execution is a notch on the bedpost of the idea.
The future? Even the past wasn’t so illiberal.

SILVER SPOONS
I was surprised to learn that the Whitney Houston sample worked here by Genius Of Time is from a record barely two years old.
The bassline is also part of the original too. It’s nice to hear essentially mainstream sounds put to such deep use by house producers.
This track is on the very smart Drifting Back EP, released on Royal Oak, a sub-label of Dutch imprint Clone.

ELYSIAN FIELDS
Liv Spencer and Saheer Umar’s House of House project with DJ Harvey on the remix for Rushing To Paradise.
The original 12″ was released on Whatever We Want in early 2009, with exclusivity-cum-scarcity leading to the NYC duo re-issuing it themselves later in the year, with Harvey’s dub on the flipside.

DIRTY WORD
The Balihu Bootleg EP is a collection of unreleased records, early works and b-sides from Daniel Wang.
‘Unhouse’ was originally released in 1995 with the Balihu imprint in its infancy and did not feature on the colossal Best Of compilation.

ANALOG BEATS
Stuart Price’s Darkdancer was originally released in May 1999, achieving modest critical acclaim.
Sometimes was the fourth single from the album; the warm, introspect prose perfectly narrated by the perpetual tones of 80s pop god Nik Kershaw.
