MECHA TOKUSATSU
Dark, playful house from Roland Appel, perhaps better known for his work in the Rainer Truby Trio.
Dark Soldier featured on the first of three releases for Berlin’s Sonar Kollektiv, four years ago.
Harmonic basslines envelop broken nu-jazz elements that together achieve a mysterious yet light-hearted vibe.

MEMORY LOSS
In less than three years, Content has grown from a project between like-minded friends into a mainstay of Manchester’s house and techno culture and beyond.
Born at the Roadhouse and continuing to grow at Joshua Brooks, Content’s contribution to the city’s electronic music scene grows ever greater. Aside from a succession of parties featuring guests more akin to headline-making ‘superclubs’, the collective and its individuals have taken steps into production and are about to inaugurate their own imprint.
Resident DJ Lee Daley has kindly curated the third chapter of our Rainy City Soundtracks mix series, and we also chewed the fat about all things Content ahead of Friday’s party with Move D and Deep Space Orchestra.

TOIL AND TROUBLE
One half of Session Victim, Matthias Reiling has released two albums individually, both for the Weimar-based DIY label Giegling.
Fittingly the A1 from the first of the those fantastic records, the vinyl-only Das Gespenst Von Altona, Bubble To Bubble credits Hauke Freer (the other half of Session Victim) on 808.
The fusion of leftfield arrangement and warm sounds take it low. Real low.

BIFIDUS DIGESTIVUM
Banana Wine is the second EP from Mo Kolours, including a contribution from Beautiful Swimmers.
Essentially a house extension, the remix beautifully elongates the soulful dub sounds of Mini Culcha, the third of seven originals from the Mauritius-born artist’s mini-album.
The whole release is available free on bandcamp.

NELLY & KELLY
Boo Williams‘ Home Town Chicago, originally released on Relief in 1996, was re-issued last October by London’s Anotherday Records, proclaimed as “a new label dedicated to plucking forgotten classics from the sometimes murky depths of musical history.”
This record is a great place to start. Eight tracks of seminal techno and house range into acid and deep territories, and while there are occasional Vodka Revolution moments, the bump is soon back.
